What this Website is About?
I created Seattle Roots & Texas Boots to share my journey and inspire others to make positive changes in their lives. I believe that the first line of defense in better health is the food that we are putting in our bodies and the lifestyle choices we make.
I want this site to be a guide to inform individuals on finding what might be beneficial to take out and put into their diet. Through suggesting different ingredient swaps in recipes or highlighting superfoods. What products and strategies to use around the home
Eating better and implementing healthy habits can be a challenge especially when it’s new. Here I hope to provide recipes that will make your mouth water and satisfy various diets and cravings. To make cooking and living a beneficial lifestyle look possible, and to provide reasons why this is important
I created this resource to be used as a guide to help those in all stages. People just diagnosed with food allergies, who don’t know where to start. People who want to better their health, and their families health by improving eating and lifestyle habits. Or maybe experienced individuals who just want a platform to receive and bounce ideas at.
I believe that overall good health is greatly influenced by the food we eat and the lifestyle choices we make.
My Experience
About ten years ago, I experienced a decline in my health. I started having muscle ache and fatigue, skin sensitivity and rashes, among other things. I tried to find assistance with multiple doctors with limited success, and no answers.
About eight years ago I finally saw a naturopath who ran a food allergy test on my blood. The test came back with almost everything outlined in red. Dairy, gluten, red meat, tomatoes, green beans and so many more. I took everything out of my diet and soon after started feeling so much better.
I eventually started bringing back foods, when I felt comfortable. Now I have refined my diet to a place that meets my personal health needs and satisfies my body. Today I am still learning new ways I can better my health through this chosen lifestyle.
I have helped a great many individuals around me open up to the idea of food being a root of many of their chronic health problems.
My husband alone has ulcerative colitis, which has been a big challenge for him. Diet weighs a huge impact on his overall health and comfort. With my history he has used me as a big resource to starting to feel better and more functional day to day.
To do this you have to be willing to become uncomfortable in your food habits and to deeply examine reactions to the food you are eating. This takes a lot of patience and is not for the faint of heart. There is no one plan that fits all here; it is so personal and unique.

More About Me
I graduated from the University of Washington with a major in psychology and a minor in bioethics. After school it was my intention to become a patient advocate. Because it was and is my passion to help individuals understand their health.
After college I made a huge move with my new fiance from Seattle to Texas. I immediately fell in love with the people and the country. Soon after I got a job at the hospital and started my career.
But it didn’t take long to realize I didn’t want to pursue a career in the medical field. Instead I wanted to combine my passion for cooking and baking, my health nut self, and my experience battling food sensitivity to create this resource for others struggling like me.
A Fun Fact About Me
I have loved photography for a long time. I first started collecting old cameras because I believe that they hold the bridge from innovation to memory preservation. In high school I took all the photography classes I could including managing the yearbooks production and sales.
In college I became involved in the school newspaper. Now I combine all these skills into my blog so I can inform the public of my thoughts and ideas.
